Preserving Textile Workers’ Life Stories for Future Generations
We want to hear your stories
Did you work in the East Midlands textile industry during 1980 – 2005?
Share your stories with the Textile Tales project team
Welcome to Textile Tales
We want to hear from everyone, from dyers, machine operators, workers and management, from the boardroom to the shop floor. In the 1980s, workers protested to save the industry and these stories deserve to be shared.
We are collecting stories and photos at our roadshow events and as we gather more information we will publish it here for all to see and share. The project will share all the findings, including skills that are becoming scarce in the parts of the industry that still exist.
Sponsored by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters and supported by partnership museums, universities, businesses and East Midlands History and Heritage.
We’ve had over 100 visitors to our events so far, and recorded many fascinating oral histories as well as seeing photos and items that have been brought along.
Our last event is at Lakeside Arts, University Park, Nottingham NG7 2RD on 22nd November from 11am – 4.00pm. Come and share your stories with us.
With thanks to our Project Sponsors and Partners
