Ruddington Cassette Hoard at Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum

In the library at Ruddington Framework Knitters’ Museum, 20 old cassette tapes were found and we were intrigued to find out what was stored on them.  Helen from the Oral Histories department at The University of Leicester brought a cassette player over to see if we could listen to them and what they were as most weren’t labelled very well.  They turned out to be tapes of oral histories mostly recorded in the late 1980s and early 1990s with one dating back to 1953 capturing the reminiscences of two framework knitters in Calverton.  The cassettes ranged from managing directors and academics to people working on the shop floor.  The quality was pretty bad on most and will need a lot of cleaning up, but they have already been digitised and will make for interesting listening!  As soon as this has been done we will share more.
